Jane's Story – Staying involved in your chosen field after retirement
Jane, age 58, from Eastern Ontario enjoyed a 29 year career as a phlebotomist (someone who is trained to draw blood) and clinic assistant for the Blood Transfusion Service.
While she was working, she also volunteered for her local Blood Donor Clinnic, acting as Volunteer Convenor. When Jane and her husband retired to a new home and community, she became the Canadian Blood Services Volunteer Leader for two local blood donor clinics.
As Volunteer Leader, Jane schedules and trains 16 active volunteers and coordinates the sponsorship of refreshments from 5 local Lions Clubs and a Masonic Lodge. Jane also sits on the Board of Directors of her church and helps with a local seniors’ dinner program.
